Create or Import Image and Text Watermarks in Google Docs

You can now add image and text watermarks directly into your Google Doc.

A watermark image or text will repeat behind the text on every page of your document. This is useful for adding company logos, branding, and custom designs.

To add an image watermark

  1. Open your Google Doc
  2. Go to Insert > Watermark.
  3. In the panel on the right, click Image.
  4. Select an image.
  5. If you would like, you can use the panel on the right to format your watermark.

To add a text watermark

  1. Open your Google Doc
  2. Go to Insert > Watermark.
  3. In the panel on the right, click Text.
  4. Type the text you want to appear as a watermark.
  5. If you would like, you can use the panel on the right to format your watermark.

Note: If you see some gaps appear in your watermark, it may be because the text in your document has a background color. You can remove the background color of your text to see the whole watermark.

After your watermark has been inserted, you can edit it.

  1. Open the watermark panel on the right
    • Either Control + click on the image or text. In the popup menu, click Select watermark (at the top of the menu). Then below the watermark, click Edit watermark.
    • Or, click Insert > Watermark in the menu at the top of the document.
  2. In the toolbar on the right, select Image or Text options.

To delete a watermark

  1. Open the watermark panel on the right by using the insert menu or control + click.
  2. At the bottom of the panel, click Remove watermark.
