What's New in Google Meet!

Leave Empty Call Reminders

Google has released a feature that will help prevent situations where your audio or video is unintentionally shared via a Google Meet. Now, when you’re the only person in a meeting for ten minutes, you’ll receive a prompt asking whether you want to stay or leave the meeting. If you don’t respond after two minutes, you will automatically leave the meeting.

Host Management Controls Update

It used to be that host and co-host controls could be found in multiple locations in Meet. Google has now consolidated all host and co-host features in a single, central location under the “Host controls” menu. You can access this new and improved Host Control menu by clicking on the small lock icon in the bottom right corner of your screen during a Meet.

Set Up Host Controls and Assign Co-hosts AHEAD of Meetings in Google Calendar

In addition to setting up Google Meet breakout rooms in advance in Google Calendar, meeting organizers can also:
  • Turn meeting safety features on or off, such as chat lock, present lock, and more.
  • Designate co-hosts before the meeting.
To adjust Meet settings in Calendar:
  • Edit your calendar invite.
  • Click on the gear next to the Join with Google Meet link, "Video call options".

  • Choose your Host controls, Co-hosts and Breakout rooms options in the popup menu.

Join a Google Meet Call from an Open Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides Tab.

You can now join a Google Meet call directly from Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

While in an open file, click on the Google Meet icon in the upper right.
You can choose to:
  • Start a new Google Meet
  • Join an existing or scheduled Meet
  • Move the Meet to the current browser tab (the Meet will appear beside the document in the same browser tab) or
  • Just present the tab.
This will make it easier for everyone in the meeting to collaborate on a document while having a conversation.

Easily Search for Google Meet Content in Google Drive

Looking for that Meet Attendance report or Meet recording in your Drive? Google has now made it easier to find and organize Meet content in Drive.

In the search box, type in app:”Google Meet” to find Meet content such as:
  • Meeting recordings
  • Chat transcripts
  • Attendance reports
  • Polls or question and answer reports
  • Meeting transcripts
  • Meeting notes created in Google Calendar

As with any Google Drive search, you can also narrow your results by Location, File type, People, Last modified, Title only and To do.
