Free up space on your Macbook Air

If you are receiving the warning, "Start up disk almost full" when you turn on your laptop or when you try to save or download a file, it is time to clean up and free up some space!

To check the space available on your laptop:

Hold down the command key and letter "i" and click on the Macintosh HD icon.
A box will pop up with information about your hard drive. Check the Capacity and space Available. If you don't have much space available, it might be time for some clean up!

If the hard drive icon is not on your desktop, below are instructions on how to make it appear:
  1. Click on Finder
  2. Click on Preferences
  3. Check the box "Hard disks"

CLEAN UP AND FREE UP SPACE!
Even if you have lots and lots of documents, it is your photos and videos that are using up your space. It is time to get them into the cloud!

You can move photos and videos into your Google Apps Account (work) and/or personal Gmail account. Your Google Apps account has unlimited space in all your Google storage areas including Drive, Photos, YouTube and mail. Your personal Gmail account has unlimited storage in Photos and YouTube. You have a maximum of 15 GB of free storage in your mail and Drive account (combined).

Find your Photos App in the dropdown box of the App Launcher (waffle) with all your other Google Apps. Click on it to get started!

I suggest that you turn on auto backup. That way all your photos and videos will automatically backup in Google Photos and you can delete them from you laptop. Click here for instructions on how to set up auto back up for photos and videos on your computer.

Don't forget to back up your documents! Even though documents take up less space than photos and videos, you wouldn't want to lose them. Upload them to Google Drive and they will not only be safe but accessible anywhere, anytime and on any device,
