If you're looking for an easy way to create, distribute, and grade quizzes, Google Forms is a great tool. In just a few steps, you can set up a quiz, provide automatic feedback, and even track results.

  • Or, in Google Drive:
    • Open a form.
    • Click Settings and turn on Make this a quiz.
    • Enable Collect email addresses under "Responses." (Optional)

Make an Answer Key and Add Feedback

  • Add a question by clicking Add question.
    • Supported Question Types:
      • Short answer
      • Multiple choice
      • Checkboxes
      • Dropdown
      • Multiple choice/Checkbox grids
  • Enter the question and possible answers.
  • Click Answer key and select the correct answer(s).
  • Set the point value.
(Optional) Add feedback or an explanation using text or YouTube videos.
Note: You can adjust points and feedback for all question types.

Customizing Quiz Settings

You can control what your students see during and after the quiz, like missed questions, correct answers, and scores. To do this:
  • Open the quiz and go to Settings.
  • Adjust the settings under "Respondent settings."

Grading Quizzes

You’ll get an automatic summary of quiz results, including:
  • Commonly missed questions
  • Correct answer charts
  • Average, median, and range of scores

  • To Grade Individual Responses:
    • Open the quiz, go to Responses, and click Individual.
    • Navigate between responses and assign points.
    • Leave feedback if needed, then click Save.

  • To Grade Question-by-Question:
    • Go to Responses and click Question.
    • Award full, partial, or no points.
    • Add feedback if needed and click Save.

Sharing Results

  • By default, grades are released immediately (if email addresses aren’t collected).
  • To change this, go to Settings and choose how to release grades (immediate or after manual review).
  • To release scores, go to Responses, select the person, and click Release score.

Using Locked Mode

Locked mode keeps students focused by preventing them from using other apps or browsing websites during the quiz.

To enable: Open the quiz, go to Settings, and turn on Locked mode under "Chromebook settings."

In locked mode:
  • Email addresses are collected
  • Students can’t use other apps.
  • Some extensions and keyboard shortcuts are disabled.
  • If a student exits the quiz, or opens any other tab, the teacher is notified via email.
  • If a student reopens the quiz within 30 days, the teacher is notified via email.
  • You may only be able to access the quiz during scheduled hours.

And that’s it! With these tips, you’re ready to create engaging, interactive quizzes with Google Forms. Happy quizzing!
