Grading Periods in Google Classroom

Grading periods is a new Google Classroom option that allows teachers to define and apply grading periods segmented from the entire school year to their Classroom assignments. These periods can match your school or district’s grading structure, such as quarters or semesters, or structured anyway you choose. Once set up, assignments are automatically organized into the grading periods you set up based on the due date (or publish date if no due date is set).

To set up grading periods:
  • On your computer, go to classroom.google.com.
  • Click your class and then Settings .
  • Under “Grading,” click Add grading period.
    • Set each period’s:
    • Name
    • Start date and end dates
Tips:
  • Start and end dates for grading periods cannot overlap.
  • Grading period names must be unique.
  • You can add multiple grading periods by clicking on "Add grading period".
  • You can copy grading periods to multiple classes by clicking on "Copy to other classes".
Important: When you copy grading periods to other classes, they replace the existing ones.
