Student Engagement Information in Google Classroom

Google has introduced a new feature that enhances teacher visibility into student progress, helping educators provide timely and effective interventions to better support student success.

Through Google Classroom's pre-existing workflows, teachers can now easily track whether students are engaging with assignments that include Drive attachments. This feature makes it easier to identify students who may need additional support and empowers teachers to make more informed decisions on how best to assist their learners.

Specifically, teachers will be able to monitor student activity in two key areas:

  • Classwork page: View the number of students who haven’t yet edited their assignment attachments.
  • Student work page (for individual assignments): See when each student last edited their attachments.

With this new insight tool, teachers can:

  • Quickly assess whether students have begun their assigned work.
  • Offer timely interventions, such as sending reminders to individual students or the entire class.
  • Adjust their instruction based on the overall progress of the class.

Currently, this feature is available for assignments with Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings attachments. By giving educators real-time visibility into student progress, this tool helps create a more responsive and supportive learning environment.
