Google Meet Updates

Present a doc, sheet, or slide directly in Google Meet

You can now present directly to Google Meet from Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides. This can make it easier to present a document, sheet, or slides to a meeting you are attending.

Present your Docs, Sheets, or Slides content:
  • Go to Google Meet.
  • Join a meeting.
  • Open a file in Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
  • In the top menu area of your Doc, Sheet or Slide, click Present to a meeting .
  • Choose your meeting (or enter a meeting code).
  • Select the preview of the tab to confirm and start sharing.
  • Back in Meet, view your presented content directly in the meeting.
You can present slides in full screen. After confirming your tab to present, click Present . Back in Meet, you will see your slideshow in full screen mode.

Google Classroom video meetings easier and more secure

Google has added several new features to Google Meet in Classroom, making it easier and more secure:
  • The Class Meet link is now accessible on the side of the class stream, so students can easily join and teachers can manage the link from the stream.
  • Students will be directed to a waiting room until a teacher has officially joined the class Meet link.
  • Guests not on the class roster will have to “ask to join” and be admitted by the teacher before they can participate, so no unintended participants join the meetings.
  • All designated co-teachers for a class will automatically be co-hosts in the meeting. This moderation tool will enable co-hosts to start the meeting with the same Meet link without the class teacher needing to be present. Please note that after a Meet link is generated, if a co-teacher is added or removed, you must regenerate the Meet link to update the host status.

Automatically move breakout room participants back to the original meeting

Google has introduced a couple of improvements for breakout rooms in Google Meet. These improvements include:
  • The ability for meeting hosts and co-hosts to automatically move participants back to the main meeting room once breakout rooms end.
  • Better visual indicators for breakout room participants to indicate this movement.
    • Breakout room participants will see a banner with a countdown indicating when they’ll be moved back to the main meeting room.
    • Indicators confirming participants have been moved back to the main meeting room.
    • Cameras and microphones will be turned off when participants are automatically moved back into the main meeting. Participants can re-enable them once they’re ready.
